How does light affect your wedding photos?

While we can't change the weather, timeline planning is such a big part of your wedding day planning. Lighting can have a huge impact on your photos! From the colours, to the shadows, light makes such a difference. Your special day deserves nothing less than perfection, which is why I'm excited to share insights on how different lighting conditions can elevate your wedding photos.

How does light affect your wedding photos?

Midday Full Sun:

While midday sun can cast harsh shadows and create contrast, it can also lend a vibrant energy to your photos. We'll work together to find angles and backdrops that make the most of this intense sunlight, creating striking and dynamic images. A great way to do this is to go forehead to forehead. This can help to have no shadows on your faces while still having a sweet moment.

Cloudy Day:

Cloud cover offers soft, diffused light that's flattering and ideal for capturing intimate moments. The even lighting allows for rich colours and a dreamy atmosphere, perfect for romantic elopement portraits. The downside is you lose the "glow" that backlit sunny images provides.

Open Shade on a Bright Day:

Seek out open shade on bright days for beautifully even illumination without harsh shadows. This soft, natural light enhances skin tones and details, providing a gentle backdrop for your love story to unfold.

Late Afternoon Sun Just Before Golden Hour:

As the sun begins its descent, the warm, golden light of late afternoon adds a magical quality to your photos. We'll take advantage of this enchanting glow, creating images filled with warmth and romance.

Golden Hour with No Sun Diffusion:

Golden hour, characterized by its soft, warm hues, is a photographer's dream. Without any cloud cover to diffuse the light, we'll capture the ethereal beauty of this fleeting moment, creating breathtaking images bathed in golden light. Without any diffusion, ie if the light is not being broken up by light clouds, or some tree branches, the light is slightly stronger.

Golden Hour with Slight Diffusion of the Light:

When clouds gently filter the golden hour sunlight, it creates a soft, luminous glow that's simply enchanting. This subtle diffusion adds depth and dimension to your photos, imbuing them with a timeless elegance. The diffusion is also possible by using some tree leafs. But this is not always possible on an open mountain setting.

Immediately After the Sun Sets Behind the Mountain:

Even after the sun sets, there's still magic to be captured. As the sky transitions to dusk, we'll seize the opportunity to create dramatic, atmospheric images against the backdrop of the fading light.
